The Origin story behind ctr

Your story is uniquely your own. Your therapy should be too.

Carolina Trauma Recovery and Psychological Services was built on a simple but radical idea: that therapy should be designed around the client, not around the clock.

The traditional therapy model wasn't designed with trauma recovery in mind. Fifty minutes goes fast, and for this kind of work, that often isn't enough time to go where healing actually requires. CTR was built differently and by design. Every decision made here, from session length to treatment structure to the pace of your healing, is made with one person in mind: you.

My practice founded in depth, intention, and the belief that trauma survivors deserve more than only managed symptoms. You deserve real, lasting recover that isn’t fit into a box.

I carried that conviction into every clinical setting that followed and I kept noticing the same pattern: clients coming in motivated, insightful, and making progress, only to be cut off just as the real work was beginning.

My continued clinical experiences only reinforced the idea that the structure of traditional therapy simply wasn't built for the depth that I believe trauma recovery requires.

So I started asking different questions. What would therapy look like if it wasn't rushed? How do we create enough space for meaningful, lasting shifts? What does a practice look like when it's built entirely around the needs of trauma survivors and not around volume, insurance panels, or the 50-minute standard?

CTR didn't emerge from a business plan I created, but from years of clinical experience and a growing conviction that the traditional therapy model wasn't serving trauma survivors well enough.

Early in my career, I worked within correctional facilities. Spaces where I met people carrying the heaviest, most invisible weight imaginable. Childhood abuse, violence, neglect, generational trauma. What I witnessed there ignited something in me: behind every story was a person whose life had been shaped by trauma they never had the space, time, or support to heal from.

Building Carolina Trauma Recovery is my answer to those questions.

My Practice Philosophy

Your story is uniquely your own. Your therapy should be too.

This isn't just a tagline. It's the axiom that guides every decision made at CTR: from how sessions are structured to how treatment is planned to how progress is measured.

At CTR, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. There is no rushing through your history to stay on an arbitrary schedule. There is no ending a session just as it feels like something important surfaces. Every client brings a story that deserves to be heard fully, honored completely, and treated with the time and space it requires.

That's why every session at CTR is 90 minutes. That's why the full Cognitive Processing Therapy protocol is offered in both intensive formats and weekly therapy sessions to honor a pace that’s right for you. That's why my practice operates outside of high client volume models to foster genuine connection and the depth of care needed for trauma recovery.

The Hummingbird Metaphor

The hummingbird was chosen as the heart of my practice because it embodies everything that guides trauma recovery: resilience, precision, endurance, and the capacity to find sweetness even in the most difficult landscapes.

Just as the hummingbird hovers with intention, sustains momentum with purpose, and ascends with power, clients navigating trauma move through their own stages — stabilization, processing, and post-traumatic growth — at a pace that honors their capacity and their story.

This is not therapy that rushes healing or forces forward movement before you are ready. It is intentional, skillful, and transformative work. The kind that moves you toward the life you want, not just away from the pain you're in.

You are a high-achieving professional who has built a successful life on the outside while quietly carrying something heavy on the inside. You are good at showing up. You are good at pushing through. But, underneath the productivity and the accomplishments, something from your past keeps surfacing. Maybe it comes up in your relationships, your reactions, or the way you feel when things slow down enough to actually acknowledge it. You may have tried therapy before and felt like you were circling the same ground without real forward movement. You may be currently working with another provider, but looking for specialized, focused trauma treatment alongside your existing care.

My clients are insightful, motivated, and used to holding it together. They come to CTR because they want more than coping strategies. They want to understand how trauma has shaped the way they think, feel, and move through the world, and they want a clear, structured path to change it.

If this sounds like you, you're in the right place.

CTR was built for adults in North Carolina who are done surviving and ready to heal. Who are tired of carrying something they never asked to carry. Who are finally ready to put it down for good.
